Paul Menes joined the firm in 2006, as a partner and co-chair of the Entertainment and Media Practice Group. He is known for his continuing expertise in the worldwide music, mobile, wireless, online and video industries, as well as for his work with television, radio and copyright clients primarily in North America. Mr. Menes consulted to Sony Corporation in Japan in the later 1990s on two of the earliest digital content delivery services. He has continued to represent many clients in the digital space since then, including the public company that is the number one mobile content distribution company in the world. His other clients range from new and established artists and performers, entrepreneurs and start up entertainment and Internet companies to multi-platinum recording artists and producers, multi-national companies, television and other content producers, post-production facilities, audio and audio/visual equipment providers and licensing clients.
Mr. Menes has also practiced trademark/branding and copyright law for over 15 years, assisting both entertainment and non-entertainment clients in the formulation, registration, prosecution and licensing of intellectual property and on related matters.
In addition to representing his clients on specific requested matters, Mr. Menes advocates to and provides his clients with “business affairs” representation comprised of advising and counseling clients as early as possible in their various projects and business endeavors to assist them in reaching their desired goals in a cost-effective fashion, while identifying and avoiding problems and issues that could make accomplishing those goals less likely and more expensive. In this regard, Mr. Menes has served as co-producer on several long form live concert programs and assisted in the implementation of multi-million dollar, multimedia music based projects. One was an awards/concert series/television program/recording project in Japan that drew both creative and production elements from Japan, the United States and Europe. Another was an annual U.S. network televised radio music awards program and its related industry convention.
Prior to joining Duval & Stachenfeld, Mr. Menes was a partner, co-founder and co-head of the Entertainment and New Media Law Practice at Tyre Kamins Katz Granof & Menes in Los Angeles. Prior thereto, Mr. Menes was a founding partner in 1982 of Menes Law Corporation, a well known and successful AV rated Los Angeles entertainment firm for over 22 years. He has been profiled in the last several editions of “Who’s Who in American Law” and “Who’s Who Among Young American Professionals.”
Mr. Menes is admitted to practice in California.
