Lawrence Z. Kutsher (“Zach”) joined the Firm in 2003 and is a member in the Transactional Department.  He is also a member of the Real Estate Practice Group, the Distressed Real Estate Practice Group, the Restructuring and Workouts Practice Group, and the Investment Funds Practice Group.  Mr. Kutsher has extensive experience in all principal areas of real estate law and his practice at the Firm centers around the acquisition, disposition, development and financing of all types of real estate assets in jurisdictions throughout the country and abroad, as well as structuring complex real estate joint venture transactions. 

 

Mr. Kutsher’s clientele range from large institutions such as investment management firms and opportunistic real estate funds to local and national developers and operators. 

 

Examples of transactions recently handled by Mr. Kutsher include the acquisition, development, construction financing and joint venture structuring of a vertically subdivided mixed use development in Chicago with an overall value in excess of $400 million, the acquisition and financing of a portfolio of residential home lots in various stages of development in California, the acquisition, subdivision and sale in multiple phases of an office building and raw land in Phoenix, and the sales, acquisitions and financings of numerous hotels, office buildings, apartment complexes and industrial properties nationwide.  Mr. Kutsher has also assisted clients in opening offices in Japan and Singapore and conducting and structuring investments in such locations.

 

Recently, Mr. Kutsher has been involved in advising clients on a range of issues relating to distress situations, including the purchase of a non performing loan in Japan as well as determining the client’s rights as borrower under a construction loan against a potentially defaulting lender.

 

Prior to joining the Firm, Mr. Kutsher was an associate at Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP.

 

Mr. Kutsher received a B.A. in 1996 from The University of Pennsylvania (magna cum laude) and a J.D. (cum laude) in 1999 from Fordham University School of Law.  While at Fordham, he was a member of the Fordham Law Review and the Order of the Coif.
