Craig L. Brown joined the Firm in 1999 and is a member of the Real Estate Practice Group and the Distressed Real Estate Practice Group.  Mr. Brown has over fifteen years of experience in all principal areas of real estate law.  His practice focuses on the acquisition, disposition, financing and leasing of all types of domestic and international real estate assets, as well as structuring complex real estate joint venture transactions and workouts.  Mr. Brown has developed a reputation as a highly skilled attorney who is singularly dedicated to his clients’ well being.

 

Having represented many prominent developers, hotel operators, money center banks, insurance companies and investment funds in real estate and corporate transactions, Mr. Brown has developed significant expertise in the following areas: (i) acquiring, financing and equity structuring of large portfolios of real estate assets in multiple jurisdictions, including motels, nursing homes and rehabilitation hospitals; (ii) acquiring, financing and equity structuring of multi-family residential properties; (iii) representing institutional lenders in originating acquisition, construction and permanent loans in respect of all types of commercial real estate; (iv) acquiring, financing and equity structuring of all classes of office buildings, mixed-use office parks, hotels and full service resorts; (v) restructuring distressed real estate loans for borrowers and lenders, as well as acquiring distressed real estate out of bankruptcy or foreclosure; and (vi) leasing all types of commercial real estate, from both the landlord’s and tenant’s perspectives.

 

Most recently, Mr. Brown has been heavily involved in distressed real estate.  Particular areas of expertise for Mr. Brown include the purchase of distressed real estate debt, representing borrowers in workouts and restructurings to avoid bankruptcy or foreclosure, and advising on the implications of the various governmental actions pertaining to the stabilization of the financial markets.

 

Prior to joining the Firm, Mr. Brown was an associate at Cahill, Gordon & Reindel, and at Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson.

 

Mr. Brown received an A.B. in 1989 from The University of Michigan, an M.B.A. (with distinction) in 1993 from Hofstra University School of Business and a J.D. (with distinction) in 1993 from Hofstra University School of Law (where he was an Articles Editor and a Consulting Editor of the Hofstra Law Review).  Mr. Brown is licensed in New York.
